A & W Root Beer
a-wrootbeer.com |
CARBONATED WATER, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP AND/OR SUGAR, CARAMEL COLOR, SODIUM BENZOATE (PRESERVATIVE), NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLVAORS. |
|
Ahhhhhh….. this is THE baseline for RB goodness. Not overly sweet, a sweet-cream taste, a head of foam others wish they had and great on the tongue. This would have rated higher but I must reserve that for a brew that goes the extra mile and has that certain something special added to it. Belch factor at 9 and holding. |
Ahh…Good ‘ol A&W. I look at this and say, “Golden Brown”. Belchers unite! You can slam a half dozen of these in a night. Poetry.I know there is better but the price is right Bob. |
|
Abita Root Beer |
CARBONATED WATER, CANE SUGAR, CARAMEL COLOR, ROOT BEER FLAVOR, PHOSPHORIC ACID. |
|
Good scent with lack-luster of flavor. No foam worth mentioning. Looked and tasted like a regular soda. After taste was very nutri-sweetish. Belch factor resembled mild indigestion. |
I have to admit I’m a bit confused about the “Root Beer Flavor” in the ingrdients. Isn’t it the ingredients that is supposed to give root beer it’s flavor? Fizzy iz az fizzy doez. Enough Said. |

AJ Stephans Boston
www.ajstephans.com |
PURE CARBONATED WATER, CANE SUGAR, FLAVOR, CARAMEL COLOR, SODIUM BENZOATE AS A PRESERVATIVE. |
|
“Made with Pure Cane Sugar” and that ain’t no lie! This stuff sticks to your teeth. The taste was a bit different and unplaceable, that is probably why they called it a TONIC. It makes me wonder if the rest of the ‘Fructose’ RB’s would benefit from a little caneing. (honestly, I would drink another AJ’s if I had one) |
No. This is not on my happy list. At the risk of sounding offensive…I may say that the “AJ” stands for Ass Juice or Aweful Joke. And another thing what “flavor” was added per the ingredients? Can we get more specific as far as what flavor were talking about. |

Americana Microcrafted Root Beer-Cream Style |
CARBONATED WATER, CANE SUGAR, CARAMEL COLOR, EXTRACTS OF VANILLA, LICORICE, SASSAFRAS ROOT BARK, CITRIC ACID, NATURAL FLAVORS, ACACIA EXTRACT AND SODIUM BENZOATE (PRESERVES FRESHNESS) |
|
Here is another case of “What the heck is that taste?” This is not exactly my choice for a daily drinker. However, the taste may be appealing to you even though I will pass on it. I hate not knowing what flavor that is… |
Once again I am faced with an undescribable flavor. Im not sure, but if I had to guess. I would say that this is what a purple crayon would taste like. Don’t brag about this one to your friends. |

Barrell Brothers Root Beer
www.sodabeers.com |
WATER, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SWEETNER, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, CARAMEL COLOR, YUCCA EXTRACT, PHOSPHORIC ACID, SODIUM BENZOATE AND POTASSIUM SORBATE AS PRESERVATIVES, ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), AND CALCIUM LACTATE. |
|
This RB has a slightly different zip to it that I can not place. My only real disappointment was that it did not foam up as touted on the label. I do not know if I like the idea of adding vitamins to a RB to make it healthy but it won’t stop me from drinking one. |
More like “bottom of the Barrell” brothers. I’ll give you a buck if you can tell me what the heck that tastes like. Aside from a slight flavor of brown krylon paint…..I am at a loss. |
|
Berghoff Famous Root Beer |
CARBONATED WATER, PURE CANE SUGAR,CARAMEL COLOR, SODIUM BENZOATE (PRESERVES FRESHNESS) NATURAL FLAVOR AND CITRIC ACID, |
|
Great scent, taste and medium carbonation. This one is all flavor and sweetness. This would contend with bottled RootBeer candies for pure enjoyment. Ever have one of those root beers that make you want to lick the bottom of the mug? This one will! |
Good stuff Maynard. It has just a little bit of everything that a root beer needs. It can use just a little more of one of those things that you want, but I can’t quite place which one of those wants that it needs. |
|
Big K Root Beer |
|
|
This RB is best left on the shelf. 3 cans out of the 6 pack tasted odd and you could only tell that after the licorice bombardment settled down inside your mouth. However, if its 107 degrees outside and you need a RB that badly… |
It’s like K-Mart in I can. You know what I mean. You might go there from time to time but you wouldn’t go there to impress a date and you probably won’t tell your friends that you went. |
|
Boylan Bottleworks Root Beer |
CARBONATED WATER, CANE SUGAR, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, CARAMEL COLOR, NATURAL YUCCA EXTRACT, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM BENZOATE (PRESERVES FRESHNESS) |
|
The first RB to rate BOSS status on my list. This has it all, great scent, taste and very tantalizing to the palette. This is just short of root beer cotton candy without the mess! Do not pass this one over. |
Dang Earl ! That stuff will make your goat ninny. If you like strong licorice flavor then buy this. I was entertained by the potentcy of the flavor but not really my type. Nonetheless. |
|
Bulldog Root Beer
www.bulldogrootbeer.com |
CARBONATED WATER, CANE SUGAR, HONEY, MALTODEXTRIN, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, SODIUM BENZOATE, REAL VANILLA, PHOSPHORIC ACID, SALT. |
|
Put this in your “I have got to try this RB” list, you will not be dissappointed. Well, not until your 6 pack is empty, then you weep like I did… The flavor of the honey and vanilla really bring out the best in this brew. 3 words – go get some! |
This is certainly above average. I took a big o’ mouthful and had to chew it first. It is a thick flavor that I enjoyed. Maybe it’s the raw honey or maybe it’s some secret bulldog juice that I don’t wanna know about. Either way your gonna have to get on the highway to Fresno Cali or the superhighway to www.com to find this stuff. |
|
Bundaberg Root Beer |
WATER, SUGAR, NATURAL HERBS AND SPICES, MOLASSES, FOOS ACID (330), YEAST, PRESERVATIVES (211, 223) |
|
Unique and tasty. It resembles a Sas’prilla more than a RB and had good flavor. It comes up short on the carbonation but that does not take any points away from it. It has a load of ingredients that look like they come from a candy bar. You might want to try at least one of these. |
Ack! Plah! My eyes are bleeding. I could only take 2 drinks before I said “NO MORE”! 2 words…..Cough Syrup. I just can’t handle this flavor.
